Biography
Mert Turak was born on March 29, 1980, in İzmir, Turkey. His father, a teacher, is from Malatya, while his mother, a tax officer, has Macedonian roots. When he was 3-4 years old, he stayed with his aunt in Aydın. He attended Doğan Akad Meliha Akad Primary School in İzmir. During the third grade, his family moved to Karşıyaka Bostanlı, and he continued his education at Emlak Primary School. Later, in middle school, they moved to İzmir Yeşilyurt, where he completed his education in 1994. He then attended Vecdi Gönül High School in İzmir and started taking theater courses in 1995.
During his high school years, he actively participated in amateur theater activities at İzmir Kültür-Sen Amateur Theater Group, performing in numerous plays. After graduating from high school, he enrolled in the Theater Department of Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Fine Arts in Isparta. In 2000, he transferred to Istanbul University State Conservatory, where he studied Stage Arts and graduated in 2004.
While still a student at the conservatory, in 2003, he started working as a non-staff actor at Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality City Theaters, performing in several professional theater and children's plays. In March 2003, he was sent to the Theater Festival in Skopje, Macedonia.
He later pursued a Master’s degree in Advanced Acting at Bahçeşehir University.
Personal Life
On June 21, 2020, Mert Turak married architect Birgül Kurtçu.
