Who is Selen Uçer?

Selen Uçer was born on May 5, 1983, in Istanbul, Turkey. Her full name is Leyla Selen Uçer. Her parents are chemical engineers. She graduated from the Austrian High School in Karaköy and later earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Boğaziçi University.

During her university years, she developed an interest in acting and joined the Boğaziçi University Players. She also attended part-time vocal training at Istanbul University State Conservatory under Gül Sabar. Additionally, she studied acting under Işıl Kasapoğlu at Akademi Istanbul.

In 2000, she received a scholarship to pursue a master's degree in acting and theater at Roosevelt University in Chicago. She worked with improvisational comedy groups and, in 2002, performed as an intern at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, a prestigious off-Broadway venue in New York. In 2003, she starred in Dream in New York, a play she wrote herself, which was staged at festivals and off-Broadway theaters. She also participated in the Moscow Art Theatre’s New York workshop.

Returning to Turkey in 2004, Uçer taught Improvisation, Comedy & Character, and Voice for Acting at Yeditepe University’s Theater Department. She also conducted workshops at the Mithat Alam Film Center at Boğaziçi University. Uçer is fluent in German and English.
