Yasemin Baştan was born on February 18, 1972, in Istanbul, Turkey. She graduated from the Theater Department of Mimar Sinan University State Conservatory in 1993. With a career spanning several decades, she has taken on numerous roles in both television and film, earning a place among Turkey's esteemed actresses.

Apart from acting, Baştan ventured into radio broadcasting, starting as an announcer at Radyo Sport. She later became the director of Radyo Fener. Following her marriage, she moved to the United States, where she lived for two and a half years. During her time in the U.S., she studied English Language at Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, California, from 1996 to 1998.

Her breakthrough role came in the popular television series İkinci Bahar (1998–2001), where she starred alongside legendary actors Türkan Şoray and Şener Şen. This role significantly increased her recognition and solidified her place in the Turkish entertainment industry.

In 2012, Yasemin Baştan played the role of Nazlı in the hit TV series Seksenler, sharing the screen with prominent actors such as Rasim Öztekin, Özlem Türkad, Şoray Uzun, Serhat Kılıç, İlker Ayrık, and Ayşe Tolga. In 2021, she starred in Aşkın Tarifi, where she acted alongside Kadir Doğulu, Serra Arıtürk, Alper Saldıran, and Cem Davran.
